6:00-7:30 PM A-B Tech | Ferguson Auditorium Asheville NC U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards, R-NC-11 is hosting a town hall event in Asheville despite House Speaker Mike Johnson encouraging Republican lawmakers to skip town halls after several have been targeted by angry protesters. There have been several remarks ob Facebook (and other articles promoting this town hall) from individuals on the left planning to confront Edwards in Asheville. If you're able to, please attend and show your support for Congressman Edwards.

MONDAY, MARCH 17TH
6:00-7:30 PM Tuscola HS Auditorium | Waynesville NC In November, Mo Green (Democrat) defeated Michel Morrow (Republican) in the NC superintendent race. Mr Green is hosting 8 "listening and learning" sessions across the state and will be at Tuscola High School in Waynesville on March 17th. All parents, students, educators, school and district staff, public officials, and other community members are invited to attend.
According to the "Making the Grade" report by the nonprofit Education Law Center, in the 2022-23 school year, North Carolina public schools spent over 17.2 billion on instructional expenses, using a combination of state, federal, and local resources. State funding accounted for 61% of expenditures, federal funding accounted for 17%, and local funding accounted for 22%. In the same year 98.7% of capital expenses were paid by local governments. According to U.S. Census Bureau data for the year 2022, NC ranked 48th out of 50 states and the District of Columbia, spending $11,777 in state and local revenue per public school student in pre-k through 12th grade. That's 30% below the national average expenditure of $16,131 per student. That total does not include capital expenditures (like school construction.) |

If you plan to order food, please arrive and be in line to place your order at 6:00 so we can start our meeting at 6:15. Prior to the meeting, we'll have tickets for sale to our May 4th Afternoon Tea Fundraiser and there will be membership forms available if you have not renewed your membership for this year or if you're a new member joining.

SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH
Registration : 9:00-11:00 AM Tuscola High School Auditorium 564 Tuscola School Rd | Waynesville NC The District 11 GOP Convention is on Saturday, April 26th. You can pre-register online until noon on Wednesday, April 23rd or you can register in person on the 26th between 9AM and 11AM. Pre-registration is encouraged. There is a $20 donation required to attend the Convention. If you were not elected as a Delegate during your County Convention, you may attend as a guest. Register at NC11.org.

2:00-4:00 PM Silver Treasures | 152 S Main St | Waynesville Purchase your tickets early to reserve your seat for High Country's Afternoon Tea - our Scholarship Fundraiser. Tea, tea sandwiches, scones, and desserts will be served and are included in the ticket price of $40 per person. Champagne and mimosas will be available for a donation. This fundraiser kicks off HCRW's Scholarship Program providing scholarships to high school seniors in Haywood County looking to further their education at a 2 or 4 year school. Additional donations are appreciated and will be distributed to moms and children affected by Helene.
Ticket sales for a table of 6 or 8 purchased together include complimentary glasses of champagne for each guest at the table. All tickets must be purchased in advance and seating is limited. |

High Country Republican Women will host several events throughout the year. We will have business meetings on the 4th Thursday of the month at the VFW Post 5202 at 216 Miller Street in Waynesville, NC unless indicated otherwise. You do not have to be a member to attend an event, but we'll have membership information available for you and would like to invite you to join. Women and men can be members - and both are invited to attend our meetings to find out more about HCRW.
